Evaluations
Based upon the guidelines of the Georgia Department of Education, a library media specialist may be evaluated by their administrator on an instrument of the administrator’s choosing. The most commonly used instrument on average that is used by Georgia school system districts is the Georgia Media Specialist Evaluation Program. Currently, Newton County Schools uses the GMSEP to provide annual evaluations on their school system's media specialists.
Based upon the guidelines of the Georgia Department of Education's Library Media Program Self-Evaluation Rubric, a school system shall employ a full time Library Media Specialist for each base size school or larger. Newton County Schools provide the following criteria that offers exemplary standards based upon the GADOE LMPSE Rubric: (1) library media staff is available throughout the instructional day to assist teachers and students, (2) a full-time paraprofessional clerk is on staff in the library media center.
